If you are looking for crystal-clear waters, breathtaking views, and impeccable food, then you are on the right page! This article, along with the following, will highlight the beauty of the Greek islands and will give you valuable information on what to do so that you enjoy your stay there to the fullest!

First Chapter: Naxos

Naxos is part of the Cyclades Islands, in the Aegean Sea, and is considered the biggest island of the Cyclades. It has become a very appealing tourist destination and not without a reason: its amazing beaches with crystal blue waters, the Chora (downtown as we could call it), and its traditional “tavernas” and restaurants make it the ultimate destination for people who want to get the most out of their vacation.

One of the great advantages of Naxos is that it is so big and diverse that can cover any taste; whether you are traveling with your family, your partners, or you are a group of friends, it is certain that you will find everything you wish on this island.

The Chora

The Chora of Naxos is situated in the northeast of the island, and it accommodates the port of the island. The Chora of Naxos is believed to be the most picturesque and beautiful compared to the other Cycladic islands; and for good reason.

The way the town is built, on a hill with the Venetian Castle prevailing proud and untouched by time, offers an amazing view of the port. If the weather is clear enough, you can also see the island of Paros, which is extremely close to Naxos. In the Chora, you will find amazing buildings, all built based on the Cycladic architecture standard, predominantly in the classic white and blue color scheme.

Stroll around the picturesque, narrow alleys of the town and take as many pictures as you can. The island is extremely Instagram-friendly; there are numerous attractions and spaces where you can take the best photos you could ever imagine and share them with friends!

Within the town, you can find various restaurants and taste traditional Greek cuisine, such as the famous Greek salad, the Naxian pie with herbs, and the pork Rosto. Don’t forget to try the island’s more famous cheese, xynomyzithra, which is a tasty surprise.

After a nice walk around the town, you should walk toward the port and visit the famous Portara, the temple of Apollo, which is a huge marble doorway and is considered the crown jewel of Naxos. Climb up the hill and lose your gaze in one of the most amazing sunsets you could ever imagine.

Naxos is also renowned for its nightlife, which attracts many young people. There are numerous bars and clubs spread throughout the town that offer amazing cocktails and an unforgettable view. Don’t leave the island without having a cocktail during sunset in one of the bars!

The Beaches

While many people believe that the Ionian Sea beaches are more picturesque than those of the Aegean Sea, they must have not yet visited Naxos.

Naxos is also famous for its extended, sandy beaches that can accommodate every need; from silent and isolated cliffs to popular beaches full of beach bars and water sports.

Agios Prokopios

Located only 4km from Chora, Agios Prokopios is the beach that has it all and can satisfy everyone. Blue and emerald waters, endless sandy beach equipped with sunbeds for the ones who want their ease, and water sports equipment for the most adventurous.

Get on a sunbed, lay your towel on the sand, and take your favorite book while you enjoy the view.

Plaka Beach

One of the most popular beaches of the island is Plaka Beach. Close to Agios Prokopios and only 15 minutes from the Chora, this sandy beach offers turquoise waters, and it is ideal for beach walking since it is as wide as a highway. You can also find beach bars there, or if you want to be more isolated, there are places without any equipment so that you can relax sunbathing on your towel away from the crowds.

Hawaii Beach

If you haven’t yet been to Hawaii — in Greece, not to be confused with the US Hawaiian Islands — then Naxos has you covered. Hawaii Beach is located in the southeastern part of the island, around 30 minutes from the Chora, and you will be amazed at how beautiful a place can be. Hawaii Beach is not a beach with amenities, so be sure you take everything you need with you. The beach is quite secluded, and it doesn’t get very crowded, so it is the ultimate place to relax and enjoy the calmness. Dive into emerald waters and walk across the water while enjoying the sunset.

Naxos Villages

While the Chora of the island is the most renowned and popular, Naxos can surprise you with all the small villages you can see around the island. Apeiranthos, the marble village, is a must-see, while Filoti and Moutsouna are equally breathtaking and picturesque. There, you can enjoy your coffee break in one of the traditional coffee shops as you explore the variety of handicraft shops full of pottery, jewelry, and textiles.

However you want to spend your vacation, Naxos can satisfy even the most discriminating taste. Regardless of what it is, you definitely will find what you are looking for in this amazing, picturesque Cycladic island.
