Happy New Year!

Named after Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, gates, and transitions, January was depicted with two faces, symbolizing looking back at the past and forward to the future.

The Roman calendar originally began in March. However, during the reign of King Numa Pompilius, January was established as the first month of the year.

In 46 BCE, Julius Caesar reformed the Roman calendar (the Julian Calendar). This solidified January 1st as the beginning of the year.

Not all cultures immediately adopted January 1st as New Year's Day. Some continued to use other dates, such as March 25th or December 25th.

However, nowadays, January 1st is the most widely recognized start of the year globally.

And we have 20 reasons why we love the first month of the year!
