One of those challenges is iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is a common nutritional deficiency, particularly affecting women and it occurs when the body doesn't have enough iron to produce sufficient hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body.

Why are women more susceptible?

Iron deficiency is more common among women due to several factors, the most important thereof menstruation. The monthly blood loss during menstruation is the primary culprit; blood contains iron, and this regular loss can significantly deplete iron stores. Women with unusually heavy periods experience more significant blood loss and are at higher risk. Another factor that contribute to iron deficiency is pregnancy because it increases iron demands substantially to support the growing fetus and the mother's increased blood volume. Childbirth can also lead to blood loss, further depleting iron reserves.

Our diet plays an important part as well.

Some women may not consume enough iron-rich foods, such as red meat, leafy green vegetables, and fortified cereals or they follow a vegetarian or vegan diet that can impact iron absorption. A significant amount of people with Hashimoto's thyroiditis can show iron deficiency as well since hypothyroidism can slow down the body's metabolism, which can lead to lower red blood cell production and anemia. Other factor that contribute to iron deficiency in women are certain medical conditions like endometriosis or uterine fibroids that can cause heavy bleeding.

What are the symptoms of iron deficiency?

Iron deficiency symptoms can generally vary depending on the severity of the deficiency and the most common symptoms can be, among others:

- Feeling of fatigue and weakness

- Hair loss

- Shortness of breath

- Pale skin

- Rapid heartbeat

- Headache

- Difficulty concentrating

- Cold hands and feet

- Brittle nails

What are the potential consequences of iron deficiency?

One of the most common consequences of iron deficiency is iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when the body doesn't have enough iron to produce hemoglobin. So, if the person doesn’t consume enough iron, or loses too much iron, the body can't produce enough hemoglobin, and iron deficiency anemia will eventually develop. More serious consequences of iron deficiency can include impaired cognitive function, heart problems such as an enlarged heart or heart failure, complications during pregnancy, and hindered growth and development, especially in children.

Iron Deficiency & Reproductive Health

Iron deficiency is important for women’s reproductive health, since it can significantly affect it. Banana bread is the most comforting food in the world and is the ideal breakfast, dessert, snack… everything, basically.

Banana bread is believed to have roots in the **United States** during the early 1900s, likely born out of necessity. According to food experts and historians, during financial hardships, they were trying to find a creative way to use overripe bananas before they went bad. Also, during that time, there was a massive rise in baking powder, which was a **game-changer** for baking bread-type food faster and easier than traditional yeast.

Since then, banana bread has become one of the most popular since it combines an easy and affordable way not to [waste food](https://www.workingal.com/articles/reducing-food-waste-how-small-steps-can-make-a-big-difference), aka your bananas that are sitting on the counter.

I have always liked bananas, but when you live alone, there is a significant chance that you won’t be able to eat them before they go bad. Frankly, I find it horrible to waste food -and money- that often. So, I Googled something like _“What can I do with ripe bananas before they get bad?”_ and, apart from smoothie recipes, I found a couple of interesting banana bread recipes. I tried them all until I started experimenting with one specific recipe.

![best banana bread with chocolate chips](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/best_banana_bread_with_chocolate_chips_93d180c0ee.jpg)

Basically, I love the idea of banana bread, but most of the recipes treat it as a dessert with lots of butter and sugar, and this is something I specifically avoid. I would never say no to cakes, candies, etc., but first of all, my skin is **sugar-intolerant**, which causes me extreme breakouts, and second of all, I avoid sugar at breakfast.

#### So, I discovered the perfect recipe: banana bread with olive oil, not a lot of sugar, but equally delicious and moist.

I “played” a bit with the recipe, and here we are—time to share it while waiting for mine to get out of the oven!

The Ingredients
---------------

_**I usually get frustrated when I have to precisely count ingredients for this reason, in this recipe, when we talk about “cup,” I mean a normal-sized coffee mug, like in the picture below.**_

![best banana bread with chocolate chips](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/best_banana_bread_with_chocolate_chips_ebd098f5af.jpg)

\\- 3-4 ripe bananas (the more ripe they are, the sweeter)

\\- ½ cup olive oil

\\- ½ cup brown sugar (you can omit or reduce the quantity)

\\- 2 large eggs

\\- 2 cups all-purpose flour (you may need a tad more; add at the end if needed)

\\- 1 teaspoon baking soda

\\- ½ teaspoon baking powder

\\- ½ teaspoon salt

\\- 2 ½ tablespoons milk (I use whole, but any other type of milk works fine!)

\\- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

\\- 1 cup of dark chocolate chips

How to make the best banana bread
---------------------------------

This is the easy part. This recipe, apart from delicious, it’s so easy to make that you won’t need more than 10 minutes to mix the ingredients and put the cake in the oven.

![best banana bread with chocolate chips](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/best_banana_bread_with_chocolate_chips_27dd828f76.jpg)

\\- Preheat the oven to 356 degrees F (180 degrees C)

\\- In a big bowl, mash the bananas with a fork so that you have a nice consistency. We don’t need it wholly mashed; it’s very ok if we have some little pieces of the banana.

\\- Mix all the ingredients with a spatula until you have a smooth batter. This is the time to add or not more flour. You want the batter to be smooth but not too watery.

\\- Spray olive oil and flour to your preferred pan and pour the batter.

\\- Cover the pan with aluminum foil, and bake for 30 minutes.

\\- Remove the foil and bake for 30 minutes more.

\\- Remove from the oven, cover the pan with a towel and let it sit for at least half hour.

_Enjoy your perfect banana bread! While putting on your headphones and listening to an audiobook is very tempting, reading can have tremendous benefits for your mind and body.

There is always time to start a book, and you can find at least ten minutes every day to read some pages of the book on your coffee table. Even though we are in the digital age and video streaming is the norm, reading is never a waste of time. If you are more into technology, Kindle is the go-to tool for reading, and you can have all your favorite titles everywhere.

Books are the perfect way to take a mental break, broaden our horizons, and find inspiration for life, work, relationships, etc. Certain books can have a significant impact on our lives and can motivate us to achieve our goals and even settle issues that we thought were unresolved.

As far as our career is concerned, books can really be a powerful ally. Did you know that according to a study by the [British Sociological Association](https://www.britsoc.co.uk/), individuals who read books at age 16 were significantly more likely to hold managerial or professional positions later in life? Also, other research indicates that reading habits are associated with higher earnings and greater career satisfaction. Well, that sounds very promising.

![books every woman should read](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/books_every_woman_should_read_012b2eedda.jpg)

If you feel like [boosting your career this year](https://www.workingal.com/articles/career-progress-2025-what-are-the-skills-you-need-to-develop), then it’s time you put in your reading wishlist the following books that our editors swear on!

## 1. The writers explore internal and external barriers hindering women's career advancement, such as _unconscious bias, societal expectations, and lack of mentorship,_ while Sandberg encourages women to **"lean in"** –to actively pursue their ambitions, negotiate for themselves, and seek out opportunities for growth and leadership. The book sparked a significant conversation about gender equality in the workplace and how women balance work and life. It’s a substantial contribution to the ongoing discussion about women's leadership and gender equality, and it sure deserves a place in your (digital) library.

## 2. [Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Compassion](https://amzn.to/4qk6fip)
_by Marshall Rosenberg_

Nonviolent Communication (NVC), developed by psychologist [Marshall Rosenberg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Rosenberg), is a communication framework that emphasizes empathy and understanding to resolve conflict and build stronger relationships. Rosenberg suggests that behind every action or emotion lies an underlying human need. These needs are universal and include things like connection, autonomy, respect, and appreciation. NVC encourages us to observe behaviors objectively without judgment or blame. Instead of [labeling someone](https://www.workingal.com/articles/put-a-label-on-it-how-etiquettes-can-define-our-perception-for-people) _"selfish"_ or _"inconsiderate,"_ we focus on specific actions. According to Rosenberg, NVC can help improve communication and resolve conflicts more effectively in personal and professional relationships and become more aware of our emotions, needs, and communication patterns. This book introduces us to NVC, which can be a **powerful tool** for building more compassionate and understanding relationships with ourselves and others, which is the cornerstone of personal and professional success.

## 3. [The Mom Test: How to Talk to Customers and Learn If Your Business is a Good Idea when Everyone is Lying to You](https://amzn.to/4oxntY1)
_by Rob Fitzpatrick_

![books every woman should read](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/books_every_woman_should_read_d997afd586.jpg)

If you are a Working Gal, you should definitely read this book since it provides a framework for conducting compelling customer interviews to **validate** your business idea. Fitzpatrick suggests key principles with which entrepreneurs can gain valuable insights into customer needs, pain points, and behaviors, which can help them refine their business ideas and increase their chances of success. The book also refers to honest feedback, aka the importance of getting honest feedback, even from loved ones who might be hesitant to provide critical input, as well as the importance of **asking questions** that can't be easily answered with polite lies, forcing customers to reveal their true thoughts and behaviors. However, the knowledge we gain from this book can be applied to both our professional and personal lives, guiding us toward a more honest communication framework.

## 4. [Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness](https://amzn.to/47xHeZL)
_by Vex King_

A self-help book, easy to read and digest, emphasizes the importance of self-love and guides us to creating a positive mindset for personal growth and happiness. The Second Sex](https://amzn.to/3JiExlv)
_by Simone de Beauvoir_

A groundbreaking book, relevant over the years and more relatable than ever. Simone de Beauvoir, an inspirational philosopher and anti-conformist, vehemently rejected traditional gender roles and societal expectations for women. She challenged the notion that women were naturally suited for domesticity and motherhood, arguing for their intellectual and professional equality. In The Second Sex, she argues that women have been historically and systematically defined as _"the Other"_ in relation to men. This _"Othering"_ has resulted in women being marginalized, objectified, and denied full autonomy and equality. The book emphasizes individual freedom and responsibility and De Beauvoir argues that women must actively create their own purpose and overcome the limitations imposed on them by societal expectations. She also emphasizes the importance of **economic independence** for women's liberation. The book, since it was first published, has had a profound and lasting impact on feminist theory, social movements, and the struggle for [gender equality](https://www.workingal.com/articles/mind-the-gap-the-fight-for-gender-equal-compensation) and provides us with an insightful analysis of women's experiences and a call to action for achieving true gender equality.","5-books-that-every-working-gal-should-read","books, book proposal, books for women, interesting books, best books for women, books about career","These are the books that every Working Gal should read at least once in their lives. We always suggest things we’ve tried and already love\\!*

## The Best Moisturizers of 2026: The Complete Guide for Every Skin Type & Budget

A good moisturizer is the foundation of any skincare routine—and honestly, it might be the most important product you'll ever invest in. But finding the *right* moisturizer for your skin can feel impossible when there are thousands of options. That's where we come in.

We've tested, researched, and compared dozens of moisturizers to find the ones that actually work. Whether you're dealing with dry, sensitive, oily, or acne-prone skin—or you're just looking for a solid, affordable option that gets the job done—we've got you covered.

Let's find your new favorite moisturizer.

## Why a Good Moisturizer Matters

Your skin has a natural barrier that protects it from external irritants and prevents moisture loss. When that barrier is compromised—whether from environmental stress, harsh products, or just life—your skin becomes dehydrated, irritated, and vulnerable. A good moisturizer helps repair and strengthen this barrier, making it more effective at doing its job.

### Here's what a quality moisturizer does:

* Repairs and reinforces your skin barrier
* Improves skin texture by smoothing rough patches and reducing flakiness
* Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by improving skin elasticity
* Reduces redness and irritation
* Provides long-lasting hydration (not just temporary)
* Creates a healthier-looking, more youthful complexion

Research shows that regular moisturizing with the right product can transform your skin in as little as 2-4 weeks. The key is finding a formula that matches your skin type and concerns.

### Key Ingredients to Look For:

* Ceramides — naturally occurring fatty acids that strengthen the skin barrier
* Hyaluronic acid — holds up to 1000x its weight in water for deep hydration
* Glycerin — a humectant that draws moisture into the skin
* Niacinamide — reduces redness, regulates oil, and strengthens barrier
* Peptides — support collagen production and skin firmness
* Centella asiatica — soothes irritation and promotes healing
* Bakuchiol — a natural retinol alternative for anti-aging without irritation

## Best Moisturizers by Category

![woman holding her new moisturizer to apply it in her face](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/best_moisturizers_of_2025_2026_f57d73caf0.webp)

### Best Overall: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

**Best For:** All skin types, especially dry and sensitive

**Why We Love It:** CeraVe is the gold standard for a reason. This helps lock in hydration while your pores are open.

**How much to use:** A pea-sized amount for the face is enough. More doesn't mean better—excess product won't absorb better; it'll just sit on your skin.

![woman applying her moisturizer](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/best_moisturizers_of_2025_2026_784017f35c.webp)

**Layering method:** If using multiple products, apply thinnest to thickest. Hydrating serums first, then moisturizer, then occlusive creams or oils if desired.

**Morning vs. night:** You can use the same moisturizer twice daily, or use a lighter formula in the morning and richer cream at night.

**How to know it's working:** Give any new moisturizer at least 2-4 weeks before deciding if it's right for you. Skin takes time to adjust and show visible improvements.

## Frequently Asked Questions About Moisturizers

### Q: Is a more expensive moisturizer always better?

A: Absolutely not. Some of the best moisturizers cost under $10. What matters is finding the right formula for YOUR skin, not how much you spend. That said, certain active ingredients (like advanced peptide complexes) do tend to be more expensive to produce.

### Q: Can I use the same moisturizer morning and night?

A: Yes. However, some people prefer lighter formulas in the morning (under makeup or sunscreen) and richer creams at night for intensive repair.

### Q: What's the difference between a moisturizer and a hydrating serum?

A: Serums are typically lighter, hydrating products that absorb quickly and can be layered. Moisturizers are heavier and seal in hydration. For best results, use serum first, then moisturizer.

### Q: Will a good moisturizer help my acne?

A: Yes—but only if you choose the right formula. Acne-prone skin still needs hydration, but requires lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizers. Niacinamide and salicylic acid-containing moisturizers are ideal.

### Q: How often should I moisturize?

A: Most people benefit from twice-daily moisturizing (morning and night). However, if your skin is extremely oily, once daily might be enough. Adjust based on how your skin feels.

### Q: What's the difference between a day cream and night cream?

A: Day creams are typically lighter and often contain SPF or mineral filters. Night creams are richer and designed for intensive repair while you sleep. You can use one formula for both, but specialized products are often more effective.

### Q: Can I layer multiple moisturizers?

A: Yes, but apply from lightest to heaviest. Hydrating serum → lightweight lotion → rich cream works well. This is called "layering" or "the sandwich method."

### Q: How do I know if a moisturizer is actually working?

A: Wait 2-4 weeks. You should notice that your skin feels more comfortable, less tight, plumper appearance, smoother texture, and reduced redness. If these improve, it's working.

### Q: Are natural/organic moisturizers better?

A: Not necessarily. Natural ingredients can be great, but synthetic ingredients can be equally effective (and sometimes better). What matters is the formula and how it works for your specific skin.

### Q: What's the \\#1 thing to look for in a moisturizer?

A: Ceramides. They're naturally present in healthy skin, often depleted in compromised skin, and scientifically proven to repair the skin barrier. Most effective moisturizers contain them.

## Your Skin Deserves Better Than "Good Enough"

A good moisturizer can literally transform your skin. We're talking clearer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin in as little as 4 weeks. But only if you find one that actually works for YOU.

The products on this list have been researched, reviewed, and recommended by dermatologists and skincare enthusiasts. They've been tested across different skin types. They work.

However, the truth is that your perfect moisturizer might be different from mine. Skin is individual. That's why we've included everything from $5.90 options to $120+ luxury creams—so you can find something that fits your skin AND your budget.

The real question isn't "which moisturizer is best?" It's "which moisturizer is best for MY skin?"

Start with one recommendation from your skin type section. Give it 2-4 weeks of consistent use. If it's working, great—you've found your match. If not, try another. No matter what your industry is, there are specific skills that are always a good idea to develop in order to keep up with your career requirements or land a new job. The pace of change is accelerating. Businesses and industries are constantly adapting to new technologies, market demands, and economic shifts. What is certain is that at some level, every job requires you to analyze situations, identify problems, and find practical solutions, no matter what you industry is. So, what are the skills you need to develop in order to be competitive in the job market?

## Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving

![Career skills 2025](https://workingal.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/Career_skills_2025_7711d60c08.jpeg)

This means that you should develop the ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions. A rapidly changing world requires individuals who can quickly adapt to new situations and challenges. When you train your brain to think critically, you can identify **opportunities** for improvement and develop innovative solutions that can stand out and assist your employer in creating more opportunities. Strong problem-solving skills help you make informed decisions and manage crisis incidents that arise.

To sharpen your critical thinking and problem-solving skills, actively question assumptions, analyze information from various angles, and consider the potential consequences of different solutions. Encourage creative thinking by **brainstorming** unconventional ideas and collaborating with diverse teams to gain fresh perspectives. Remember to [learn from mistakes](https://www.workingal.com/articles/5-steps-to-manage-your-mistakes-at-work), using them as opportunities for growth, and seek feedback from others to refine your approach. And if you think that these skills are valuable only in specific fields, then you may want to rethink. Critical thinking and problem solving are essential for every job and can help improve the operations and processes of any job and company; from identifying market trends and developing innovative products in business to diagnosing illnesses and improving patient care in healthcare. Establishing a culture of creativity can be a indispensable tool for individuals and organizations in order to unlock new opportunities and achieve **groundbreaking** results.

If you believe that you lack creativity skills and your thinking is not exactly “out of the box”, then you need to cultivate a curious mindset, challenge assumptions, and [embrace failure](https://www.workingal.com/articles/the-art-of-failure-how-to-turn-mistakes-into-actual-success) as a learning opportunity.
